Blatchford’s current park design and ponds will bring residents and visitors within proximity of about 50% more green space compared to what’s seen in a typical Edmonton community, encouraging people to want to spend more time outdoors in all seasons.
Watch: Blatchford Development Manager Tom Lumsden tours you through the gardens, parks, trails, ponds, pedestrian walkways, art installations and playgrounds you’ll find already here in Edmonton’s growing sustainable neighbourhood – as well as a peek at future amenities on the horizon.
Parks & Open Spaces
Designed for active enjoyment, Blatchford is big on outdoor play!
Littlewood Park
Home to a playground, warming hut, community gardens and fruit trees, a community event space and ice rink.

This off-leash park has a fenced area of about 2,800 sq. ft. You’ll find it at the corner of Blatchford Rd and Alpha Blvd.

Heritage Features
One of Blatchford’s principles is to acknowledge the history of the site as a former airport. You’ll find nods to its aviation legacy throughout the community.
Arrival Gate
Created as a pedestrian gateway to the community rather than an entrance designed for vehicles, its design incorporates structural supports as a nod to the struts used in biplanes.
Historic Airplane Propeller
A 1,500lb steel airplane nose and propeller rising about 14 ft in the air. The propeller is an actual B-25D Mitchell II propeller from the Aviation Museum. The steel nose was modelled after one of the museum’s B-25D Mitchell II planes.
Former Airport Control Tower
With its signature red and white colours, the tower is an iconic landmark in Blatchford! Plans are underway to renovate the base of this distinctive building into a welcoming community space for all to enjoy.
Recycled/Reused Runway
Community benches incorporate materials that were repurposed from the former airport runways – an example of material reuse and a reminder of the community’s aviation roots.
Takeoff
This art piece celebrates the vision needed for humans to achieve flight. You’ll find it in the traffic circle at Blatchford Rd and Alpha Blvd (Taxiway Alpha was one of many avenues used by aircraft to access runways, terminals and hangars).
12-30 Plaza
A gathering place for the community, 12-30 was a runway at the airport, named for how it aligned with magnetic north.’12-30′ is shorthand for the compass point as an aircraft approaches an airfield: 120° NW, 300° SE.
